Jaak in Aarhus Business College

ImageI started my studies at Aarhus Business College in autumn 2005. That is 7 months from now and so far I have not felt any regret concerning coming here. Getting used to the culture and surroundings of Denmark didn’t take very long, because there are similarities between Estonian and Danish people. Aarhus – the city where I live has around 300 000 inhabitants and is very beautiful for the eye.

I will remember the first days in Aarhus forever – everything is so colourful. Here you can meet people from all around the world. Danish people in general are friendly and kind. They also seem to be quite happy. The native people of Denmark love football, beer, and sarcastic humor. It is very easy to find people who are willing to help you and who can speak English. Sometimes I feel that English is almost like a second native language in Denmark, because they can speak English at a very good level.

They drink quite a bit alcohol but they also like to do sports, especially in weekends – the most common thing is “weekend jogging”. In addition to weekend sports many of them also use bicycles for everyday transportation. This is made possible through a highly advanced network of roads built for bicyclists.

The only thing that took longer than I expected was adjusting to the price level of everyday goods, which is around two times higher compared to Estonia. Although the higher price level is not a problem – if you work at least 6 hours a week, it is possible to manage and even put something aside.

The education I chose has given me knowledge of high quality in the areas I’m studying here. The lecturers are very professional and they have a lot of practical experience in the areas they teach. Also experiencing the differences in the backgrounds of my classmates has given the ability to see things from many different perspectives. The school premises are very up to date and modern in equipment and interior.

The lectures are always interesting to listen to and built up in a way that encourages everyone to actively participate and start a discussion. Also working with different projects has given me valuable experience which I can use in practice after finishing this education. Coming here has broadened my perspective a great deal. In addition to the things I learn in the school I will have an international network of friends and possible business partners when I leave Denmark. If you feel that your future profession is closely related to the Market Economist program – go for it!!! You will not regret it…
