Chelmsford

Chelmsford is the County town of Essex - the principal settlement of the borough of Chelmsford. It is located 51 km north east of Charing Cross in London. Chelmsford is steeped in history and was one of the original settlements in the UK. Residents of Chelmsford are known as 'Chelmsfordians'.

The town has a population of approx 120,000 and still growing. It is a modern, well placed town that has a large number of commuters who work in the City of London financial sector. The town is surrounded by many small villages that retain their original charm. With excellent road, rail and air communications Chelmsford is well connected to the rest of the UK and Europe.

ImageOriginally an agricultural and market town, Chelmsford has been an important centre for industry since the 19th century. Today Chelmsford is largely a commercial town which employs around 80,000 people.

From a bustling town centre with excellent shopping and eating facilities to tranquil villages and unspoilt countryside, Chelmsford is the perfect combination of town and country. Town is particularly liked by international students. There are extensive parks, beautiful countryside as well as a busy modern shopping center and market. Arts and entertainment is a big feature of local life, the town having three theaters.
