Aarhus (Århus) is the second largest city in Denmark with population of more than 300,000, a city of growth. It is at heart, however, also Denmark’s youngest city when you consider the average age of its habitants which is far lower than anywhere else in the country.
The town hosts more than 30,000 students of higher education, making Aarhus a young and vibrant city. The city and universities - yellow-brick buildings - a unique symbiosis which has a special attraction on students and lecturers from all over the world. The everyday life and culture of the town is coloured by the many students who enjoy the beautiful countryside with woods and beaches, the wide range of cultural attractions and the cosy cafes. The Concert Hall schedules all genres. Aarhus hosts its own cultural festival every year in September and offers more than 300 events in opera, dance, theatre, classical and rock music, and street performance. Less formal, but not less important, is the local music environment which thrives in the city's many cafes, bars and restaurants; the result is a vibrant night-life. Aarhus has six historical museums and two large fine arts museums as well as smaller exhibition spaces and galleries. Today, Aarhus is a thriving business and commercial centre. Aarhus combines a country setting with all the advantages of the city life. Situated right on the waterfront, you are never far from sandy beaches and refreshing green woods. Aarhus Airport, a local airport of Aarhus, is located 40 km (25 mi) north-east of Aarhus, in Tirstrup. Aarhus is served by commuter rail that connects the city itself with nearby neighbouring cities. The main station in Aarhus is Århus Central Station, which is located in the city centre. There is also more than 20 stations in the inner city and in the suburbs.
