Aalborg is a fourth largest city in Denmark, its population is 190,000 people. The City is attractively located on the banks of the Limm Fjord and a popular meeting place for visitors from many countries. Originally founded by Vikings as a trading settlement over 1000 years ago, the city has continually attracted businesses throughout its history, and offers excellent facilities and company domiciles, backed up by a well developed infrastructure and outstanding research and development facilities.Today the city is in a transition from a working-class, industrial city to a knowledge-based one. Sited close to such beautiful spots as the North Sea coast, the hills of Rebild and the forest of Rold, this city was once granted the title of the tidiest city in Europe. Aalborg, lively city, buzzing with activity day and night, summer and winter, offers a very rich and rewarding student life. The city has Denmark's highest number of hairdresser shops, tattoo parlours, bars, nightclubs, pubs and solariums per inhabitant. Aalborg is an industrial and commercial centre in Denmark, exporting grain, cement and fish, but many of the big industries in the city have been closed in recent years.Aalborg has many cultural and leisure facilities for example a tivoli, zoo, markets, museums of history and art, music and theaters, restaurants and bars and of course the famous Jomfru Ane Gade. In resent years Aalborg city and especially the city center have been changed into a more pedestrian friendly place to the satisfaction for both the users of city facilities and the retail industry.
ACCOMMODATION The City of Aalborg guarantees that all incoming students have a place to stay during their study period. This is a unique service which is not an offer that many other cities in Denmark can live up to. To make use of that service it is obligatory to register at AKU-Aalborg. You can just from administrators and they can help you in your search for either a private room or flat in the centre of Aalborg. If you would like to see a video from Aalborg, I would recommend youtube.com video "Visit Aalborg" , and there is a 6 minutes video from Aalborg, which gives a good impression of the town and what is going on there with the tall ship race, the bigest carneval in Northern Europe etc. For more information visit the City of Aalborg and Toursit information page Hakes partner institutions in Aalborg: |
